Jesus teaches Nicodemus (pt. 1)

And there was a man among the Pharisees, Nicodemus was his name, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to him during the night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you have come as a teacher from God. For no one is able to make these signs which you make, unless the Lord is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born again, it is not possible to see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus says to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he go back into his mother’s womb a second time and be born?” Jesus answered, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born of water and of spirit, it is not possible to enter the kingdom of God. He who is born from the flesh is flesh, and he who is born from the Spirit is Spirit. Do not wonder that I said to you: ‘You must be born again.’ The Spirit blows where he wishes and you hear his sound, but you do not know whence he comes and whither he goes; so is everyone who is born from the Spirit.” Nicodemus answered and said to him, “How can these things happen?” Jesus answered and said to him, “You are the teacher of Israel and you do not know these things? Amen, amen, I say to you that we say what we know and we testify to what we have seen, and you receive not our testimony. If I speak to you about earthly things and you do not believe, then how will you believe if I speak to you about heavenly things? And no one has ascended into heaven, but he who has descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that all who believe in him may have eternal life.
